A bicycle, also known as a bike, is a human-powered or motor-powered, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. A bicycle rider is called a cyclist or bicyclist. Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number approximately one billion worldwide. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.
The basic shape and configuration of a typical bicycle has changed little since the first chain-driven model was developed around 1885. But many details have been improved, especially since the advent of modern materials and computer-aided design. These have allowed for a proliferation of specialized designs for particular types of cycling.
The modern bicycle frame consists of two triangles: the front triangle and the rear triangle. The front triangle consists of the head tube, top tube, down tube and seat tube. The head tube contains the headset which connects to the fork that holds the front wheel. The top tube connects the head tube to the seat tube at the top, and the down tube connects the head tube to the bottom bracket which contains bearings that allow for rotation of pedals and crankset. The rear triangle consists of seat stays and chain stays connecting the bottom bracket and rear dropout where the axle for rear wheel is held. The chain stays run parallel to the chain, connecting bottom bracket to rear dropout.
Bicycles are available with either flat handlebars or drop handlebars (also known as “racing” bars). Flat bars are typically found on mountain bikes, touring bikes, hybrids, city bikes and some road bikes while drop bars are found on road bikes (especially those designed for racing). Drop bars allow riders to get into an aerodynamic position by lowering their torso towards their hands and shifting their weight forward onto their hands while riding at high speeds – something that is not possible with flat handlebars.
Bicycles can be equipped with accessories such as lights, bells, baskets and kickstands as well as racks for carrying cargo or other items on your bike. Many riders also choose to add fenders which help keep road spray off your clothes when riding in wet conditions.
In addition to traditional brakes such as rim brakes or coaster brakes (which engage when you pedal backwards), there are several types of brakes available today including disc brakes (which use a rotor attached to your wheel hub) and drum brakes (which use an internal drum brake inside your hub shell).
Bicycles can be used for commuting to work or school, recreational riding such as mountain biking or road cycling, racing in events such as track racing or cyclocross races or just getting around town with friends on casual rides. No matter what type of riding you do there is sure to be a type of bicycle that suits your needs.

Bus is a common means of public transportation in many countries. It is a vehicle designed to carry passengers along certain routes, usually operated by a company or organization. Buses are usually powered by diesel or gasoline engines, but some are powered by electricity or even compressed natural gas (CNG).
The word “bus” comes from the Latin word “omnibus,” meaning “for all.” The first bus line was established in 1820 in Germany, and the first motorized buses were introduced in 1895. Since then, buses have evolved to become one of the most popular forms of public transportation around the world.
Buses are generally cheaper than other forms of transportation such as trains and airplanes, and they can often get people from point A to point B faster than cars. They also have the advantage of being able to access areas that other forms of transportation can’t reach, such as narrow streets and rural areas. Buses also provide a convenient way for people to travel together, which makes them an ideal option for groups or families traveling together.
Modern buses come in a variety of sizes and shapes depending on their purpose and capacity. Smaller buses are typically used for local transport within cities, while larger buses are used for long-distance travel between cities or towns. Some buses are specially designed for transporting disabled passengers, while others may be equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi access, and video screens.
To ride a bus, passengers typically purchase tickets at terminals located at bus stops or online before boarding the bus. Once on board, they will usually be required to show their ticket to the driver before taking a seat. Once the bus reaches its destination, passengers disembark and wait for another bus if necessary.
The English pronunciation of “bus” is /bs/.
